Herman West wants to be
Your Next US Congressman

   Over the last quarter of a century many candidates have attempted to unseat US Congressman Sanford Bishop as the representative for District II. All have failed, as the veteran congressman has won all 11 challenges – usually by double digits.
   Now, Herman West, Jr., a country preacher from the small town of Cuthbert, believes he can defy the odds and do what political pundits say is impossible.
   Why does he want to take on such a big challenge? Because after returning to Cuthbert after serving in the Marine Corps, working in a variety of jobs, and becoming a pastor, he sees a community and a region in decline.
   "I went back to Cuthbert after 50 years and it was worse than when I left," said West. "The rest of the district is the same. It's the poorest district in Georgia. I asked myself, 'What can I do?', prayed and felt led to run."

   His main campaign "hand-out" card features photos of vacant businesses and decrepit houses. The photos are of places in Bainbridge, but he says, "They could be from any town in the district. It's like that all over."
   While he does have specific policy statements, he urges residents to not get too caught up in differences he may have with Rep. Bishop on hot-button nationwide issues. Rather, he wants them to know that if elected he will ... The rest of the story.
