Tax hike in Marion County
(Sort of, but not really)

   The Marion County Commission has proposed new millage (property tax) rates that they expect to formally adopt in a meeting on October 21. While the rates are expected to generate approximately the same amount of revenue as the current rate ($2,217 more total), state regulations on describing tax information to the public appear to be a bit confusing and possibly misleading.
   Readers will likely notice a large "Notice of Property Tax Increase" on page 6 of this week's newspaper (view here). The notice, which the local Tax Commissioner is required to have published, describes it as an increase on property taxes of 21.09%.
