Panama City, Fla.

   Former Buena Vista resident and Tri-County High Class of 1984 member Al Hester and family chose to "ride out" Hurricane Michael in their Panama City, Fla. home. Now, they're thankful to be alive.

   Hurricane Michael beat a path across Southwest Georgia last Wednesday night, knocking over trees and causing widespread power outages, but the damage was mostly limited inside The Journal's coverage area.
   In Schley County, EMA Director Doug Jamieson said damage included one home destroyed by fallen trees and a mobile home with major damage. Another home was damaged by a huge tree falling on it, but the house was vacant.
   In addition, one serious spinal injury was reported, as was minor damage to 23 houses.
   Ellaville City Manager Lynne McChargue said the recent work the city has done to improve its power supply, although not complete, helped tremendously in keeping outages of electricity to a minimum.
   In Marion County, Commission Chairman George Neal reported the following: "We were very fortunate not to have any loss of life nor was anyone in the county seriously injured as a result of the hurricane. We did feel ... The rest of the story.
