Marion voters invited to
big Candidates Forum

From the Oct. 5, 2016 issue
of The Journal

By Richard Harris
The Buena Vista-Marion County community is encouraged to attend a Candidates Forum on Tuesday, October 18 at 6 p.m. in the Josh Gibson Center on Rogers Street in Buena Vista.
All candidates are invited. So far, most have already confirmed that they will participate, so undecided voters should be able to get a lot of valuable information.
Candidates who have opposition will be on the stage and will answer questions from a moderator. Those who would like to suggest questions may call Marie Berlanga with their suggestions (229-314-3208). That is also the contact information for candidates to register to participate.
After the formal question and answer portion of the forum, all candidates will be provided with a table and an area to meet and greet the public and to answer any additional questions on a one-on-one basis.
The General Election on Tuesday, November 8 will be a big one for Marion County, as there are four local offices that are being contested. The county's representative in the State Legislature also has opposition.
Local races with more than one candidate are:
   * Sheriff: Derrell Neal (D, incumbent) vs. Eric Ivey (R).
