face tough budget decisions

   The Marion County Commission took its first look at a proposed budget that may result in some tough decisions, got good news about water loss, learned about a local fire department being out of state compliance, and discussed a variety of other items during its regular November meeting.
   County Manager Justin Strickland presented a rough draft of a budget, but said the commissioners need to make some decisions before he firms it up. The biggest decision revolves around the fact that the General Fund has been technically running a deficit from $300,000 to $500,000 per year since 2016. The county has been able to absorb the deficits thanks to a robust reserve fund, but that is not sustainable in the long run.
