Schley Grads 'Storm' Into Future

From the May 25, 2022 issue

The graduation ceremony for members of Schley County High School's Class of 2022 was held in the Storm Dome at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus last Saturday.  This was because of the forecast of rain.
The Dome holds 2,000 people, and the stands were nearly filled with family and friends of the graduates.
Following the processional of the graduates marching in and taking their seats to Pomp and Circumstance, Victoria Horton, honor graduate, welcomed the audience. She thanked everyone for coming and said that when evaluating schools, "bigger was not better."
Salutatorian Ghufran Bhatti and Valedictorian Kaia MacLennan made addresses following a speech by Schley County Superintendent Brian Hall. Conferring the diplomas was undertaken by High School Principal Harley Calhoun, Superintendent Hall, and members of the Schley County Board of Education.
Singing of the Schley County High School Alma Mater was led by Katelyn Johnson, Carissa Mauldin, who were accompanied by the SCHS Band.
Closing meditation was given by Abigail Harnage, honor graduate, and the class members were told to turn their cap tassels indicating they had truly graduated. They stood and circled the floor and then tossed their caps into the air – ready to storm into the future!
