Performance Academy to host
Open House and Concert

If you have a young person in your family who shows some talent as a musician or vocalist (or one who just wants to explore those options), this Saturday, May 22 would be a good time to check out the Performance Academy in downtown Buena vista.
The academy is a place for young people to learn (or improve) their musical talents, from singing to playing a wide variety of instruments, and they are hosting an Open House for all who may want to take part in the Summer Camp.
If after taking a tour and learning more about the camp, one decides to enroll, they will receive an immediate treat – free admission to the Adam Calvert concert Saturday evening.
Not only do the students (grades 6 to 12) learn how to improve their musical talents, but the academy also includes mastering the tangibles that artists need to succeed, from dressing to moving around on a stage to having stage presence. It will culminate with a big concert. The Performance Academy students will wrap up the Summer Camp by opening a concert for Elvis tribute artist Matt Cordell in the Moon Family Theatre on June 19.
Director Lynn McAllister has a rich musical background and history of working with young people, and this is perhaps the part of the business that she is most passionate about. When she started the academy, she hoped to fill a massive void in rural Southwest Georgia.
"We found that in almost every one of the rural school systems in our region there is either no music program or band is the only program offered," said McAllister. "If you sing or dance or do something else, there's pretty much no program for you. To my knowledge there is no one providing overall performance coaching in a 50-mile radius of Buena Vista."
