Regional Performance Academy
is established in Buena Vista

   A Buena Vista resident with a music background and a history of working with young people is launching a new regional academy to fill the void of music/arts education in Southwest Georgia. Lynn Moon McAllister will launch the Performance Academy with a series of summer camps in June-July. Other advanced lessons and shows will follow starting in the fall.

   "Funding for the arts in Georgia and nationwide has been drastically cut," said McAllister, who noted that research for the new venture included visiting school systems in many surrounding and nearby counties. "We found that in almost every one of the rural school systems in our region there is either no music program or band is the only program offered. If you sing or dance or do something else, there's pretty much no program for you. To my knowledge there is no one providing overall performance coaching in a 50-mile radius of Buena Vista."
   The seeds for the grand new venture were planted a long time ago.
