   Hundreds of members of Wildcat Nation made the three-plus hour trek from Ellaville to Rome last Thursday and rocked State Mutual Stadium, home of the minor league Braves, as their beloved Schley County High School baseball team won the Class A State Championship.
   It was the second state title in only three years for the Wildcats, who finished the season with an amazing record of 34-2 and also won the Region 4A Championship.
   For the season, Schley outscored their opponents 349 to 83.  The Cats' pitchers boasted a team ERA (earned run average) of 1.03 and had a team batting average of .344 – both pretty incredible stats.
   The Wildcats were expected to be very good this year, but were not favored to go "all the way". In fact, while they entered the title series ... The rest of the story.

Championship Series Victories

   The No. 1 ranked Schley County High School Wildcats won both ends of a double-header against No. 2 ranked Gordon Lee on Thursday, May 25 at State Mutual Stadium in Rome to win the Class A State Baseball Championship. The Cats won by scores of 6-0 and 12-3.
   It was the second state title in only three years for the Wildcats, who soared to a record of 34-2 in 2017.
GAME ONE: The hundreds of Schley County faithful in attendance  - and all those listening back home – had to be a little nervous the first few innings. Schley was the "visiting team" in the series, despite their No. 1 ranking.  The Cats went quietly in the top of the first inning. A strikeout, a ground out, and a pop up ended the inning and sent senior right-hander Will Barry to the mound.
