Buena Vista rolls out red carpet
for participants of Run Across GA

   Participants in the Run Across Georgia/Run for the Heroes received a special treat in downtown Buena Vista as they neared the end of their 260-mile journey (from Savannah to Columbus) last Sunday. Volunteers rolled out the red (white and blue) carpet to cheer them on and offer a nice rest stop.
   Local residents Frank and Julie Brown, owners of Columbus businesses Odyssey Printing & Graphics and By Invitation, once again led a small band of volunteers who set up canopies for shade on the Marion County Courthouse lawn, grilled hot dogs, and offered cold drinks and freshly cut, ice-cold watermelon.
   Meanwhile, directly across the street, where multiple American Flags waved in the breeze, Dawn Welch and staff at The Dime Store, assisted by the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, offered even more small-town hospitality – including cold drinks and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies that were cooked in a small oven right on the sidewalk, which proved to be a huge hit with the hungry runners and bikers.
   Many of the relay teams that stopped in Buena Vista said that, once again, Buena Vista was their favorite rest area and they thanked the volunteers for their support.
