Schley advances to 2017
State Baseball Championship

   The No. 1 ranked Schley County High baseball team earned the right to play for a state title by sweeping the Telfair County Trojans (6-2 and 18-1) in the Final Four round last Wednesday, May 17 at Wildcat Park in Ellaville.
   Game One: Senior right-hander Will Barry took the mound in the opener and was dominant from the beginning.  He faced the minimum number of batters, allowing only 1 hit that was erased on a 1-6-3 double play.  
   Schley jumped on top early. The Cats pushed across 3 runs in the 1st inning to get things rolling.  Reid Ragsdale walked and was followed by a sharp line drive by Chase Patrick. Ragsdale and Patrick pulled a double steal to get runners to 2nd and 3rd with no outs.  Will Barry drove in the 1st run with a 2-strike ground out. Clint Sellars then had an RBI single to center, scoring Patrick.  Wade Law singled to center before Cameron Belcher doubled to deep center to plate Sellars.  
   Telfair battled back in the top of the 5th inning.  A hit batter, a single, and an error on a sac bunt earned them a run.  A second hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with no outs.  Barry then got a little help from his defense.  Patrick and Vanlerberghe turned a great double play to get 2 outs, but one run scored on the play.  With the Cats clinging ...
