   The Chattahoochee County High varsity basketball team won both of its State Championship Tournament games last week to advance to the "Elite Eight" round, which was scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, March 2 (results not available at deadline).
   If the Panthers beat Portal High in the Elite Eight, they will advance to the Final Four (semi-final round) against the winner of the Towns County/Irwin County game on March 5 or 6.
   When the season started, Head Coach Keeyon Battle had two main goals for the Panthers: make the playoffs while establishing chemistry in the midst of Covid protocols.
   Now, having shattered those goals by giving the boys' basketball program its first Region Title with an undefeated record against region foes, and advancing deep into the playoffs, they're excited about their chances of accomplishing even more. All eight teams still standing in the State Championship Tournament are No. 1 seeds from their regions, so the competition will be fierce, but Battle said he wouldn't be against his tough squad, which has a 15-1 record so far this season.
