The first ever Freedom on the Square festival will be held this weekend in Buena Vista. The two-day event is set for Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4.
Highlights will include vendors set up in the downtown area, helicopter rides behind the Old Middle School, carnival rides behind M&L Store, bounce castles/water slide at Sign of the Dove, and fireworks shows each night (sponsors/donations still welcome – contact Kevin Biggs at 229-314-6174).
In addition, at least two downtown businesses have big plans to coincide with the event. Swampfox Distilling Company will have special tours & tastings, while Fox Hall will have live music from a variety of performers throughout most of both days and nights.
A partial list of the vendors who have signed up includes: Lizzy's Sweet Shoppe (funnel cakes, etc.), Martha Jane's Jams & Jellies, Southern Porch Designs (porch signs, door hangars, decals, etc.), SAB Boomin' Bracelets, Georgia Native Cattle Company (Marion County grown beef sticks), Dragonfly Oasis Soaps (wide range of goat milk soaps with vitamins, minerals, amino acids), KaiZar Stones (jewelry/watches), Donna's Health Corner (CBD products, essential oils, sprays), Jamie's Simply a-DOOR-able, Backwoods BBQ, Wildflowers N Ladybugs (clothes and accessories). For those interesting in becoming vendors, the cost is $25 per space (contact Stephanie Tischler at 706-573-2859).
With this being the first time anyone has tried a new, two-day Independence Celebration in Buena Vista, nobody knows for sure what the response will be. However, organizers are optimistic. Joel Tischler has said he's heard from area biker groups who plan to attend – possibly around 1,000 of them.
