Safety concerns addressed
for new Buena Vista festival

   Normally, when someone attempts to start a brand new festival in a small town, the concern is being able to draw enough participants to make it successful. However, the new Freedom on the Square Independence Weekend festival in Buena Vista appears to have turned that on its head.
   While organizers are not exactly sure how many people will show up, they believe promotion of the two-day event (Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4) has generated enough buzz to bring at least 1,000 out-of-towners, plus local residents.
   That prompted EMA Director Sam Schiro to arrange a "table top exercise" with local emergency officials to look over their capabilities during such a large event. The result of that was that they were not comfortable with the level of service that could be provided if there were multiple emergency situations during the event.
