While the total number of Georgians with confirmed cases of COVID-19 is still well under 1% of the state's population, the virus continues to infect people, including serious cases that sometimes result in or contribute to death. Therefore, officials continue to encourage the public to practice social distancing and take precautions.
Statewide, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, as of Tuesday morning, was 47,899 (up from 43,584 last week). That means approximately 0.46% of Georgians have tested positive. The number of hospitalizations rose from 7,511 to 8,302, while Intensive Care Unit admissions rose from 1,696 to 1,818. The estimated death toll is now 2,089, up from 1,853 last week.
