The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) anticipates closing offices, including the ones in Marion and Schley Counties, and cutting services to reduce budgets for the 2021 fiscal year due to COVID-19. These actions are expected to be considered by the state legislature this week.
Georgia DFCS provides services like issuing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), investigating child abuse, and finding homes for neglected children. Several of these services will have reduced funding and the closure of 53 offices across the state is being considered by the legislature.
