Benefit for TWLOHA is planned
at Front Porch Coffee in Buena Vista

From the June 6, 2018 issue of The Journal
By Richard Harris
Buena Vista resident Sunni McAllister is the owner/manager of a popular small business and has received much applause on the stage as a talented performer. However, she has also recently opened up about a struggle with depression. She knows she's not alone, but also knows that many others who share the struggle do so in silence due to the stigma associated with depression and various mental challenges.
That's why next Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. she's hosting a special benefit at the Front Porch Coffee Club, located at 100 McDuffie Street (on "The Square") in downtown Buena Vista. It will benefit "To Write Love On Her Arms" (TWLOHA), which is a non-profit organization that aims to present hope for people struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury, and thoughts of suicide, while also investing directly into treatment and recovery.
"I am doing it to shed a light on mental illness and for people to know that it is okay to talk about it and be open about it," said McAllister. "I want people to know that they aren't alone. Since I began my blog posts about my own story, the response I have had has been overwhelming. People truly do need other people, and I think this benefit will help show that there are many people who feel the same way they do."
The "Your Story Matters" benefit will feature a variety of talented performers (schedule TBA, but they will be there throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
Sunni McAllister will tell her story and play saxophone. Sharah Cross will also tell her story.
Performers will also include James Taylor, Thomas Hadley, Haley Rodgers, Skyler McAllister, Anastasia Daniels, and Jordan Moses.
McAllister hopes the benefit will help everyone realize: Hope is real. Help is real. Your story is important.
