Marion economy appears
to be on an upswing

The chart above shows the "moving average" (current month averaged with the most previous 11 months) of local option sales tax revenue for the Marion County Commission. The figures for the special option and regional transportation sales taxes are similar.

   The Buena Vista/Marion County economy appears to be on the upswing. That's the good news shared recently by Marion County Manager Jason Tinsley after reviewing eight years of sales tax data. A chart of the data clearly shows that changes in revenue coincided with changes in both state policy and local business/industry over the last decade.
   Local sales tax revenue began to plunge steeply downward in January 2012, but began to flatten out and steady in the fall/early winter months of 2012.
