The Summer Concert Series of the newly formed Performance Academy in Buena Vista continued last Saturday with a special show featuring the graduates of the recent weeklong Keyboardist Camp.
The campers, some who had experience and some who were brand-new to the instrument, all joined in playing specials, as well as accompanying their coach, Jordan Moses, as he sang.
Jasper Currington received the Elite Keyboardist Award, while Allie Prados earned the Junior Keyboardist Award.
Tanya Vicente won the Elite Keyboardist Coach's Award, while Darrick Vicente received the Junior Keyboardist Coach's Award.
Other camp grads who played were Evan Bradshaw, Autumn Daniels, Carolann Funkhouser, and Kimberly Vicente.
Of course the show also featured special guests who have a connection to the Performance Academy.
The guest performers included Vocal Camp graduates Carolann Funkhouser, Kimberly Vicente, and Kedarian Harvey.
The following academy coaches also performed: Anastasia Daniels, Sunni McAllister, Jordan Moses, and Melanie Rigsby.
In addition to the specific music or vocal skills that the students learn in the camp, they are also coached in a variety of other ways, from how to interact with the audience between songs to how to dance (or just move a bit) while on stage. They each also get official "headshots" and leave the camp with the experience of developing and then executing an actual show.
There are two weeks of camps remaining, which means there are also two Saturday shows remaining before the summer camps wrap up. The next show will be this Saturday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at Fox Hall (located on "The Square" in Buena Vista). The graduates of this week's camp (also focused on keyboarding) will perform along with special guests. Admission is only $5 per person and concessions are also available.
After the summer camps are finished, the Performance Academy will shift gears and begin longer, semester classes, which will also have "Saturday Jams" and also lead to a big show for the graduates. For those interested in being involved (as singers, musicians, editors, etc.) there will be an Open House on Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m.
