The Journal wins 2-of-3 statewide
awards for Best Online News Project

From the July 5, 2017 issue of The Journal
The Georgia Press Association recently named The Journal as the winner of 2 of 3 awards in the association's 2017 "Best Online News Project" category. The awards came in the "Weekly Division", which included all other weekly newspapers in the state.
The Journal received both the second place award and the third place award.
The second place award was for the newspaper's online coverage of the unveiling of a new monument on the lawn of the Marion County Courthouse, which was titled "New Marion County Monument celebrates class of 1971's role in Civil Rights".
The coverage includes the story that appeared in the newspaper, as well as bonus online items that included a photo collection and video clips of the various speakers.

The third place award was for The Journal's online coverage of the Political Forum held in Buena Vista in May 2016 prior to the local election. It features the newspaper story from the forum as well as many video clips of the candidates answering questions and outlining their platforms.

This was the second year in a row that The Journal was a big winner in the GPA online awards. Last year the newspaper won first place in the weekly division for a video interview of Buena Vista resident Roosevelt Jackson, the nation's oldest known living former Negro Baseball League player, manager, and scout.
