BV officials looking for ways to improve water system

   The Buena Vista City Council discussed a number of likely upcoming changes with the City Water System during its recent monthly meeting.
   City officials are considering raising water rates, being more aggressive with collection of water bills, and outsourcing the operation of the Water and Sewage Systems.
   Mayor Ralph Brown said that when Tyson Poultry closed its local plant a couple of years ago the city lost almost $500,000 in revenue and that the city hasn't raised its water rate since 2003 – 14 years ago. That combination, as well as a need to maintain the aging system, means that some tough decisions must be made.
