from big brother to little brother

   The end of an era for the City of Buena Vista ended and continued at the same time last Tuesday, January 7, 2020, as one brother passed the baton of leadership to another.
   Mayor Ralph T. Brown, Jr., who did not seek reelection after 20 years in the position, watched as his brother, Kevin T. Brown was sworn in as the new mayor. City leadership goes back even further in the family, as their mother, Marie Brown, previously served on the City Council and as Mayor Pro-Tem.

   A special ceremony was held to honor the outgoing mayor, as well as to "swear in" the new mayor, along with City Council members – Yoshanda Edge, Elizabeth Murray, Gladys Thomas, and Bernard Murray. Superior Court Judge Bobby Peters was in town to administer the oaths of office.
   The mood was very upbeat and City Hall was literally packed full of supporters, with many having to listen from the lobby because there was no room left in the Council Chamber. City Attorney Roger Montgomery said that fact spoke volumes.
   New Mayor Kevin Brown said he is looking forward to serving, but noted that he has big shoes to fill.
