Marion Co. VITA program
has helped many local families

   Marie Shearer Berlanga recently updated county and city officials on the operation of the Marion County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), which provides free income tax preparation and filing for many local residents.
   The free service is generally open to those who make $57,000 or less per year, as well as those with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers.
   The program has been around locally for a while now and it continues to grow. Berlanga's report for the 2019-2020 tax season indicates that it is definitely popular with many local residents, as the VITA office processed 1,112 tax returns this season.
