'Christmas in the Closet'
is a big hit again in Cusseta

From the Dec. 22, 2021
issue of The Journal

Latavia's Closet in Cusseta recently hosted its 2nd "Christmas at the Closet" to give local kids and families a helping hand during the holiday season.
It was an even bigger success this year, as more than 125 people were served during the event that was held on Saturday, December 18 at the Robinson Recreation Center in Cusseta. There were hundreds of toys and various Christmas gifts, including a bike giveaway.
It was bitter-sweet for the organization, as the Toy Drive was named in the memory of longtime volunteer Judith White, who recently passed away.
Judith "Judy" White served as a volunteer since the beginning in 2018. She had been recognized for her work with the closet by US Congressman Sanford Bishop.
"We will deeply miss the time and effort Mrs. Judy put into making baby baskets for newborns and helping us give out bookbags with school supplies," said Shirley Jones, president. "She took pride in her work, especially ironing out all the baby clothing. No matter is she was volunteering at the school, Latavia's Closet, or her church, Mrs. Judy found time to make sure that she did it from her heart."
She is being honored with a purple bow outside the closet and plans are to rename the annual Toy Drive in her memory.
