Young honored for service
on Marion County Commission

   The Marion County Commission honored outgoing commissioner Steve Young, who was serving as the commissioner at-large, with a plaque for his two terms of service during its recent meeting.
   Young obviously had a big impact on those he served with over the last eight years, as they bid him a fond farewell with much praise. Young, a civilian contractor with the US Army in nearby Fort Benning, decided not to seek reelection at the end of his second term due to a conflict with Army regulations.
   "While serving my second term, I was notified by the Department of the Army that civilian employees could no longer hold partisan elected offices," Young said. "After seeking legal counsel, I was advised not to qualify for reelection. While I'm honored to have served Marion County for the last eight years, I decided not to pursue reelection. Marion County is well positioned for the future, but there is still much to accomplish. I wish current and future members of the Board all the best and will support them in any way I can."
