Buena Vista Christmas
Event is Cancelled

From the Dec. 11, 2019 issue
of The Journal

Christmas has been cancelled in Buena Vista. OK, that's an exaggeration, but the Christmas on the Square Parade & Vendor's Plaza that was scheduled for Saturday, December 14 at 10 a.m. has been cancelled.
No, neither Scrooge nor the Grinch have seized control of the city. It's just that the Eagles will be in Atlanta playing for the State Class A Football Championship at that same exact time. City officials didn't want Santa Claus to roll into town and find all of the lights off and the place practically deserted. Imagine how long it would take us all to stop getting coal in our stockings if that happened.
So, officials are still wishing everyone a happy and festive Christmas – and some other sort of event may be added between now and then – but everyone is encouraged to be at Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field) this Saturday in time for the 10 a.m. kickoff.
Win or lose, the Eagles will be able to say something very few people can say. They're more popular than Santa Claus.
