Theft and vandalism earlier in the week and cold, windy weather presented some challenges, but the Marion County Recreation Department had a fabulous Opening Day last Saturday.
The facilities were temporarily closed last Wednesday when it was discovered that someone had broken water lines in the restrooms, stole copper line from the AC unit, and even taken flush valves from toilets and drains from sinks. It took around $1,600 to make the necessary repairs, but everything was ready before Saturday.
The ceremony began with the introduction of all of the teams (made up of a record number of players –168) and coaches. As they lined up along the base paths from first the third, a second row had to be made due to the vast numbers.
