Most Local Small Businesses may
qualify for Paycheck Protection Plan

   Most area residents have probably heard of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which is a massive federal stimulus package to help individuals and businesses cope with the current downturn in the economy due to government mandated responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
   It's a very large bill, authorizing $2 trillion in relief payments. Just how big is $2 trillion? It's about 10% of the country's entire annual GDP (Gross Domestic Product, which is the monetary measurement of the market value of all goods and services produced).
   There are many parts to the act, but the two that appear to have the potential for the biggest impact for rural areas like the communities in The Journal's coverage area are Individual Stimulus Checks and the Paycheck Protection Plan.
