Marion County High Places Third

From the April 29, 2017 issue of The Journal

What do you do if you're a track & field team and your school doesn't have a track? If you're a Wildcat you practice in the parking lot, win the region championship for the first time in almost a decade, and have 11 athletes advance to the Area Championship Meet. No Track – No Problem.
Schley County High School is currently going through a construction/improvement project that has temporarily left the school without a track. It forced this year's team to get creative at practice, but it didn't slow them down. The Wildcats won the Region 4A Track & Field Championship last Wednesday, April 12 in Vienna by amassing 134 points and finishing well ahead of the other nine teams in the region.
Macon County was the runner-up with 115 points, while Marion County placed third with 100.
"While not having a track this season gave us some difficulties as far as working on 4x100 handoffs and practicing our jumps, our team did a great job of battling through the adversity of running in the parking lot or around the school every day and being on the road all season for our meets," said Head Coach Scott Burgess. "This is the first boys' track Region Championship since 2008. It was great to see our seniors set the team's goal as winning a Region Championship and then being able to fulfill their goal by finishing their last Region Track Meet as champions."
