Learning gardening tricks and tips

The May meeting of the Kasihta Garden Club was held May 4 at the Neighborhood Service Center. After the meeting was called to order, the program was held by T.S. Duval and Ruth Kuester. Homemade and organic gardening remedies were introduced to the members and guests. For instance, did you know that to rid aunts from your yard you could take a shovel and move ants from one ant pile and place in another and they will fight to the death of each ant?
They had so many tips and handy ideas for gardening. If you want to speed up the sprouting of seeds, the following procedure works. Take 1 tsp dish soap,

1 tsp ammonia, 1tsp instant tea, and 1 quart of warm water. Place the seeds in an old nylon stocking and soak. Then you let them dry out and plant them.
The meeting was such fun and so informative. Each guest was given a bag of wildflower seeds to spread in a pot or flower garden. If you have never been to one of the Garden Club meetings, you are missing a real treat. They have some great programs.
Valerie Lassiter and Phyllis May were the hostesses for the meeting. We had nuts, mints and a delicious chocolate layered dessert.
The next meeting for the Garden Club will be on June 1 at 7 p.m. in the Neighborhood Service Center on Broad Street. It’s going to be lots of fun and everyone is bringing a clipping from a plant or a small plant to have a plant swap. Come join the fun.
