Cusseta hosts Christmas Parade,

From the December 6, 2006 issue
The Cusseta-Chattahoochee Chamber of Commerce presented its first Christmas Parade and Christmas in the Park this past Saturday and what a huge success it turned out to be.
For many years, a Christmas Parade was held the first Saturday in the month of December and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. But due to the loss of membership and poor health the Kiwanis Club could no longer produce such a parade, so the Cusseta-Chattahoochee Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the recent graduates of their first Leadership program, took on this responsibility under the direction of the parade chairman, Al Tatom.
A lot of hard work went into producing this parade, with help from various members of the chamber. Leading off the parade was the Chattahoochee County High School ROTC Color Guard followed by their entire ROTC Battalion. Cadet Capt. Nayareth Ramirez, daughter of David and Zulema Ford, was present representing the Jr.

The Chattahoochee County High School Marching Band, composed of middle and high school students from 7th through 11th grades performed under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer
Folds. This was the first time that the high school band has performed and they did an outstanding job. Of course, we must also tip our hats also to the Spencer High School Band along with members of their ROTC, for they have been coming to our parade for many years.
Following all the bands, there were vintage cars, trucks, singers, including the Chorus from Chattahoochee High School and the Kasihta Cowboys, along with various float entries. Children from the community decorated their bicycles, and were rewarded with prize money. The Chamber of Commerce rewarded several floats for their entry into the parade. The winners were: Grand Marshall Award to the Chattahoochee Public Library; First Place to the U.S. Post Office; and Second Place to Kingsville Baptist Church. Of course we can’t forget Santa and Mrs. Claus who enterained the children in the park.
The Christmas in the Park, which was organized by Sadie Jackson, was a huge success, where the community enjoyed being entertained by various singers plus the Kasihta Cowboys who not only provided some beautiful music, but also had the crowd doing line dancing. There were several vendors in the park selling their items along with some great tasting food, popcorn and cotton candy. The Chamber of Commerce had a drawing for a free bicycle, which was won by Kimberly Weathers, of Cusseta.  She was one happy youngster. Jus Bar-b-q also gave away a free bike to some lucky child.
All in all, it appears the entire community turned out for this fantastic parade (along with the party in the park) and plans will be getting underway to produce another one next year, and that may be bigger and better than this one.
