America is at a Crossroads in troubled times |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Today I feel regret and sorrow at seeing our nation in internal disarray. At home and worldwide, we are at war with extremist Islamic terrorists who vow to destroy us and who fight in despicable ways, including sending out deluded suicide bombers to kill civilians, men, women and children, as well as our fighting men and women. We cannot just quit and bring our troops home. Radical leaders are repeatedly calling for our destruction and retreat would encourage greater attacks. Lust for personal power and greed is undermining the greatness and strength of America. This lust is undermining our economic strength, human vitality, and noble purposes, while driving up the cost of all goods and services. Corporations grow ever larger, engulfing others by purchase or force. In business - oil, manufacturing, utilities, banking, merchandising, communications, news and entertainment - companies grow and grow. The rush to get cheap goods made in China or India is a grasp for increased profits. Greed and lust for power fuel this madness. Small businesses and the middle class will suffer, while more citizens enter the poverty level. In government officials seem bent on grasping or keeping power at any cost, even to the destruction of our precious constitution. Political fighting is hindering the unity of Americans in time of war. In the US Congress, members of major parties are constantly attacking the administration or one another, while hate speeches and miss-information are common. We need statesmen and patriots who are willing to come together while war rages and our fighting forces are engaged in deadly combat. But extreme ideological beliefs, lust for power and greed brings out the worst in people, especially those in high places who swore to put the good and safety of our nation first. Many federal judges pay little heed to the constitution. Rulings undermine our precious form of government, our traditional way of life, freedom to worship, and cause chaos in the judicial system. Our freedom to live, work and worship according to our Constitution and the three separate pillars of government have made it possible for America to become the greatest nation on earth. Citizens may lose this precious heritage through ignorance or inaction. Christianity is under attack. History records that Christians sought freedom of worship by coming to America. Christians were prominent in the Revolutionary War. Most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and delegates who put together the Constitution of the United States and its Amendments were professing Christians or believed in God. Their letters, rulings and speeches prominently displayed their belief in God and the Holy Scriptures. The constitutions of all 50 states refer to God and His providence in one form or another. It is a historical fact that the Ten Commandments formed the basis of our law and provides reasonable rules of behavior in many nations. The ACLU and other groups and individuals across America are pressuring local governments and schools to remove the Ten Commandments from any public place, to stop observing Christmas in the traditional manner, and even ban songs that have the word "God" at school events and sports events. Many local leaders, school officials and some church leaders give in to these demands. Where is the "silent majority" today? Where are the churches that were so strong in the building of America? Where is the influence of churches today? Some churches are compromised or diluted by the things they condone or practice. These churches have little strength of purpose, principles or mission based on the Bible. Other more orthodox churches have become complacent and are failing to arouse and inspire the majority of Americans who say in polls they believe in God and in the Bible. Connected to Halloween, a major holiday, is the belief or practice of witchcraft, demon or satanic worship. Bloody, ghoulish figures and animal or human sacrifice are depicted in movies and displays. In real life, have there not been reports of child sacrifices? Halloween generates a huge sale in scary, bloody and gruesome movies. Costumes depict demons, ghosts, and witches. Is the practice of paganism, including animal worship, Druidism, and witch covens growing in America? Sadly, as innocent children go forth to "trick-or-treat," these terrible things lurk in our world. I write of these unpleasant subjects to ask other concerned citizens to take stock of what is going on. May I still say, in the land of the free, "God save America?" |
