A critical time is upon us. War is spreading and an election year is here where the choices of voters may well determine America’s future. As never before citizens need to make decisions based on the most accurate analysis of candidates and what they really advocate for preserving our national identity, freedom and security.
We are in a world war fueled by fanatical religious zealots and abetted by despotic leaders of rogue nations. Our enemies will do anything to stop the spread of democracy and freedom. Any number of followers of this religious tyranny will commit suicide to kill their enemies. They use foul means to create fear and chaos, including killing men, women and children, and will attack any nation or ethnic group that opposes their will.
May we as a nation gird ourselves for war and unite our efforts similar to the generation that fought in World War II. Years ago we should have taken steps to gain energy independence, including drilling wells, constructing new refineries, engineering fuel efficient motors, and developing other alternative fuels. At this late date a great national effort should be taken to rectify past mistakes. Our national leaders should unite and prepare us for a widening conflict that already impacts many nations.
We must face reality. In talking to others and listening to programs on TV or radio, it seems people are unaware or just don’t care that we are in war. Some say, lets pull out our troops and bring them home. If we retreat, they will really come after us. And it is vain to blame this or that person or party for “getting us in an unnecessary war.” As Lincoln said, “A nation divided against itself cannot stand.” We have the best qualified and equipped military force ever and dedicated personnel trained to accomplish their mission. However, we need to strengthen and broaden this excellent force and give our personal support to the troops.
The United Nations cannot resolve any war or dispute. There are too many nations in it that hate freedom and democracy. Some also support the despotic forces now spreading terror, turmoil and death. There is also evidence that corruption infects the UN.
The radical Islamic leaders fear more nations may find freedom and they are desperate to stop freedom’s spread. Both Iran and Assyria support the terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hezbollah is a cancer inside Lebanon. When Israel left Gaza under pressure from the USA and the UN, Hamas took over. Much evil and enmity in the Middle East has been around since Old Testament times and is aroused to fever pitch today.
War today is complicated by a one-world trading and economic system with unseen board members from assorted nations – free and not free – making decisions. The desire to outsource for cheap labor and open borders for bringing in illegal workers, and doing a huge business with nations like China open us to blackmail or a breakdown in our economy when war occurs. The Bible – that so many people scoff at – states that a day will come when rich merchants of the world will see mighty “Babylon” crumble in ruins and weep over her fall (Rev. 18:11).
Terrorists recently entered Israel and kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Some sources are saying Israel should forebear and talk to the terrorists. Israel retreated from Gaza. Did it satisfy terrorists? How does one talk to fanatics that follow no rational or civilized rules? Have previous “talks” and “appeasement” ever stopped them? No! It encourages them. Now let Israel root the Hezbollah out of Lebanon so Lebanon can be truly free and Israel a little safer. Only defeat will stop the terrorists.
Why am I writing on this topic? As a child of the Great Depression and World War II, and a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, I am compelled to say Americans are not prepared for war and are reluctant to admit or adjust to war. Radical Islamic terrorists have attacked us for years, not just on 9/11/01. They swear solemn oaths to destroy us. Our freedom and way of life are at stake. The war is being waged in many nations and is not just local. The fanatical followers who die for their cause have great faith. Where is our faith? It would pay Americans to return to the well springs of their traditional faith also. God, the Ten Commandments and Christmas should return to prominence in America. |
